EAS and RFID: Protect the Door, Count the Floor

Your EAS system does one job very well: it alerts your staff when a tagged item leaves the store without being paid for. What it cannot tell you is what is still on your shelves. That is the job of RFID inventory counting, and it is why more of our EAS customers now run both.

Two Systems, Two Different Jobs

  • EAS, at the exit. Security tags and labels on your merchandise, detection pedestals at the door, and detachers and deactivators at the counter. It deters theft and alerts your team the moment a tagged item walks out. Shop detection systems and security tags, or see our nationwide installation.
  • RFID inventory, on the floor. An RFID label on each item, a handheld reader, and indexRFID software that compares what you counted with what you should have.

Neither one replaces the other. EAS protects the door. RFID tells you, after every count, what is on hand, what is running low, and what is missing.

What indexRFID Does

  • Tag goods at receiving. Blank RFID labels are encoded right from the handheld as goods come in, no printer required. For larger runs, the label printer prints and encodes labels from the same receiving data.
  • Count with a handheld. Walk the floor with the reader and indexRFID checks the count against your catalog. Counts taken without a connection wait on the handheld and upload when the connection returns.
  • See what is running low. Give a product a par level and, after a count, the dashboard flags everything that fell below it.
  • Resolve what is missing. After a count, missing items can be marked sold or written off item by item, right from the count result.
  • Keep a record. Receiving, counts, imports, and sync activity are logged for each store, with who and when.
  • Ask in plain English. indexRFID intelligence answers inventory questions with the numbers computed from your own data. Every login includes 15 free questions a month.

Works With Your Store

indexRFID integrates with Shopify and Square, and can connect with most major POS and retail systems through APIs or custom integrations. It also runs on its own, alongside your current POS, or from a CSV import of your product catalog. It works with any standard UHF RFID label (EPC Gen 2) from any supplier.
